“Melanoma does not hurt. That is exactly why it is found late. My job is to find it while it is still doing nothing — and at that stage it is completely curable.”
Dr Laura Freiberga came to dermatology through oncology — working at Riga East University Hospital during her residency, she saw too many melanomas that could have been found two years earlier.
At DermaMed she examines skin lesions — both individual lesions and full-body optical dermatoscopy — with an assessment and recommendations for further monitoring. She performs around 3,200 dermatoscopic examinations a year.
Dr Laura also removes benign lesions using radiofrequency under local anaesthesia and treats patients with acne, rosacea and pigmentation disorders. Alongside her practice she lectures students at the University of Latvia Faculty of Medicine on the fundamentals of dermatoscopy.
